Tongue Twisting Titles

It has been said many times that excellent and easily remembered book titles can make the difference between sale and fail. Thus, authors have been trying their best to come up with creative titles. Every now and then, we get some funny gems such as “How to Avoid Huge Ships“, “People Who Don’t Know They’re Dead: How They Attach Themselves to Unsuspecting Bystanders and What to Do About it“, and “The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification“.

However, at times, there are book titles that are ridiculously difficult to pronounce and hence, harder to remember. This is pretty common in technical textbooks. So, I won’t give examples of them. Instead, I’ll just give two examples that were published a few centuries ago.

In 1743, a book written by Henry Carey was published entitled “Chrononhotonthologos, the most tragical tragedy that ever was tragedized by any company of tragedians.” . The first two lines of the book read:

“Aldeborontiphoscophosnio!
Where left you Chrononhotonthologos?”

The other one was published in 1661 titled “Anzoologicomineralogia: A complete history of animals and minerals, contain‘g the summs of all authors, Galenical and Chymicall, with the anatomic of man, &c.” written by Robert Lovell.

James Riffel directed a series of parodies which were also written by him named Night of the Day of the Dawn Series. He made five of them but only four were released. The first film of the series was unreleased and remained in obscurity. Part 2 was therefore officially the first of the series. The following are the titles of the films in the series and their years of release:

1991 – Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2 in Shocking 2-D.

2005 – Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 3.

2005 Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoid Zombified Living Dead, Part 4.

2011 – Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating, Crawling, Alien, Zombified, Subhumanoid Living Dead, Part 5.
