10 Shocking Facts You Didn’t Know About Bedding

This is a guest post by Kavita Paliwal.

We all know how much a good bedding is important for a great night sleep. A good sleep leads to a better health. It won’t be wrong to say that a nice sleep is equivalently important as eating healthy and exercising. So, for making sure that you sleep well and peacefully, make sure your bed is comfortable and cozy. But, how will you know that your bedding is perfect for a nice nap? Don’t worry! You are caught up in the right place. Because this article will help you to know some lesser known facts about bedding.

1. Thread Count

The quality of thread is one of the most important points that you should never skip. The length of the fiber is the best to check the quality. Longer fiber undoubtedly has a better quality. So, next time when you check the quality, look for long cotton strand rather than high thread count.

2. Avoid Sheets Labeled

I am sure that you always come across wrinkle free, permanent press and easy care bed sheet options. But, let me tell you, this signifies that the fabric has been treated with formaldehyde resin. This is a toxic chemical that cannot be washed out.

3. Freshen up Bedding

Everyone likes to freshen up the bedding by changing it frequently. But what if I tell you, you can change the bedding look by just replacing the pillow covers. Now, isn’t that something really cool?

4. Top Sheet

Almost 40% of Americans don’t sleep with a top sheet, says Insidebedroom.com. Fitted sheet and duvet cover are what works for them, especially in Europe. Me on the other hand, can’t really make myself sleep without a top sheet.

5. Avoid Wrinkle

Putting bedding out from the dryer while they are warm and a bit damp directly on the bed gives a similar effect to that of ironing.

6. Organic Cotton

You might see the organic cotton label on almost every second fiber. But, not every fiber is actually organic, toxic chemicals are used to give them that effect. Therefore always search for Oeko-Tex certification on sheets. This certification ensures no use of any toxic chemicals throughout the manufacturing procedure.

7. Texture Selection

For selecting a perfect bedding, you should always consider its texture. Sensation is the best way to judge it. Also, look for the following factors:

  • Percale feels cool and crisp and is ideal for the weather around.
  • The sateen is smooth and soft with a ting of sheen in it.
  • It is stretchy and smooth.

8. Washing Sheets

Do you know washing your beddings with cool water on the delicate cycle is highly recommended? Hot water tends to break the fibers and spoils the quality. Spoiled fiber is something that can ruin your favourite bed sheet so, be aware and keep a check on the water temperature while washing your them.

9. Dryer Technique

Always remember to avoid filling the dryer completely. This causes twisted sheets. Instead, half load your dryer so that the fabric gets enough space to fluff up.

10. Bed Sheets Affect Relationships

I am sure many of you must have never heard of this fact before. But, it’s true and single men are usually found guilty of not having good bed sheet habits as they are more likely to change a bedsheet 1-3 time in a month. Women, on the other hand, change their bed sheet at least once a week. This gap surely introduces some relationship problems amongst couples nowadays.

I hope all these facts helped you to explore some unknown bedding information. Now that you know them, start implementing. In case of any doubt feel free to contact us through comments below. Thank you!
