I’m sorry if it came across as reckless. I was surprised as I recognized this immediately from a well known children’s book and song in NZ. Perhaps Craig Smith was part of that group too, who knows, maybe he credits his publication to that source. Apologies if so.

No problem. I was just stating what I know. I apologize as well for my tone in my last comment.
I don’t know Smith, but anything is possible. After all, newsgroup members were al anonymous.

I think, unless you are Craig Smith, it seems important to give credit where credit is due? Unless there is something I’m not aware of?

If you have seen my other posts, I always give credits whenever possible. But how can I give credit to this one when the newsgroup was already defunct for many years. I don’t even remember the name of that newsgroup since I was a nember of several of them.
I checked on the net and there were a few sites which have this. However, this first appeared on a newsgroup which I’m sure predated all of those (it was in 1998). If anything else, they were the ones who copied this without giving any credits.
So, please don’t make allegations like this recklessly.

Apologies. Some googling had me discover this; https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10648161

This a dilemma among comedians. They can copyright an act, but they can’t copyright a single joke. It’s the same problem that I faced when I was still performing magic professionally. I can copyright an entire routine but not a single trick (unless I market it).

Yes, caution advised – you should never drive a truck while playing the piano. 😉

I didn’t write all of them.
Many years ago, someone started this (wonky donkey) in a newsgroup which I was a member. Predictably, others started to append their own jokes to it to make it longer. I was who contributed lorry-lacky… by the way.
